| At first I was drawn to the melody of this song...but as I listened to it more, the lyrics pulled me in even further. I think "nightminds" describes a depressed mental state and bleak outlook on life. I think many of us can recall at least one point in our lives in which we felt hopeless, helpless, and defeated. I believe it's about a person who is suffering and riding an emotional rollercoaster filled with life's greatest sorrows and greatest joys..."the highs would make you fly, and the lows make you want to die." And sometimes the easiest answer is to let go after experiencing the pain too long. But then there is a sense of hope...our support systems--whether they are friends, family, significant others, and so on...that refuse to let their loved one give up on life and hold on strong. This empathy is expressed as "But I will learn to breathe this ugliness you see, so we can both be there and we can both share the dark. And in our honesty, together we will rise out of our nightminds and into the light at the end of the fight." In essence, these people are saving lives by going to that dark place...experiencing the pain themselves...possibly making sacrifices so that their loved one does not have to believe that the only answer is to "let go" after "hanging from that very ledge." How powerful! I think it's incredible how this song can instill hope in an otherwise hopeless soul. |
