Title: Beautiful By: Anth

This song is absolutely beautiful. Sometimes all the pieces just fall together to make a song that just causes people to stop and listen, and this is one of those songs.
Title: New Computer, Bug Fixing By: Anth
On: Sun., May. 11, 2008, 04:04 PM (Rating: Average)
Hey all, I have finally gotten my computer up and running, and configured for development again. I have just finished releasing a bug fix which will now correctly show who the last person to reply to a forum thread is, that came to rise as a result of all of the under-the-hood changes that I have made in the last couple months. Again to note - one of the most difficult parts of starting up a new web site is getting an audience. I don't have a strong base audience anywhere that I can use to infuse Lyric Talk. I'm open to ideas, links, diggs, referrals, or anything that you guys can do to help me light some community kindling. Cheers! ~Anth

This post is just to test that my fix for the "last reply" is now working.

Awesome, thanks! It's nice to have you back around. I'm always down for suggestions and ideas, so let me know of anything you may think of. My first priority, currently, is just getting a few people here to start a community of regular posters and commenters - the rest should naturally fall into place once that happens.

I've struggled with the idea of bringing MW back up for a long time, but after things kind of fell apart with the site when I moved, I think I've come to the conclusion that trying to build a good user base back up again for MW, and the changes I would need to make the game effectively work, would take time and dedication that I don't know I'm able to provide to it right now. Beyond just an audience, the game needs a lot of work to even get it to the point, efficiency-wise, that it needs to be at to not upset hosting companies. There were a lot of those kinds of issues with the game, mostly due to it being my first real programming project when it was first built. That said, it's just as sad for me to lose the game as it ever was for anybody else - that game was a big part of my life for a long time! ~Anth

Hey dude! What's happening? I'm still in California, working for Care2 - they are a great company to work for. Things have been going great in California - everything in this area is almost "too perfect" - except housing costs and gas prices -_-. I'm stoked to get Lyric Talk back up, but it has been a super struggle trying to figure out effective ways to get an audience and build a community. If you have the ability to help spread the word, I'd love to work with you on it. Right now my home computer is broken, but I'm hoping to get all operations functional again this weekend. Cheers, brotha! Great to have you around. BTW, you want your other account back? Not sure what your reason was for creating "madmax2". :) ~Anth

So, there hasn't been any big updates on the site in a few weeks. I am currently experiencing some "technical difficulties" with the hard drive at home, so I've got some work to do to get everything back to normal, but hope to have everything working again ASAP. Maybe in the mean time I can start thinking more into ways to actually drive traffic to the site so that I am not talking to the black hole of the internet. =) ~Anth
Title: Comments Upgrade! By: Anth
On: Sun., Mar. 16, 2008, 05:57 PM (Rating: Average)
Hey! The comment system has been upgraded to version 1.12.153.236543.4364235674332 + 1. Or thereabouts. The new features include: -- The top 25 highest rated comments are shown by default in the thread. The rest of the comments only show the comment header. Clicking the title link will expand the comment text if it is hidden. Coming soon to a feature near you: being able to set in your preferences how many comments that you want displayed by default in any given comment section. -- In addition to the top 25 comments in a thread being displayed by default, comments are now sorted by ranking as well, with higher ranking comments getting pushed higher on the page. This means that for any given thread, the highest rated comments at the top level will be ordered first. For any replies that a given comment receives, the replies will then be sorted by rating as well, where the highest rated replies are listed first. The comment sorting feature, I realize, goes against the grain of the more traditional comment sorting of sites of the internets (which usually only sort in chronological or reverse-chronological order only), but I feel that this change will help provide incentive for users to post quality comments on song lyrics and in forum threads, by rewarding them for doing so. This takes comment quality one step farther than, say, digg or slashdot, by catering to the viewer not only by hiding low-rated comments, but by pushing them down on the page so that you don't have to scroll past them as well. In addition to being able to set your preference on how many comments you want displayed by default, I should also be adding in a feature soon that allows you to completely hide the reply list to a given comment. Cheers! ~Anth

On: Sun., Feb. 24, 2008, 12:49 AM (Rating: Average)
I have finished pushing upgrades to the site: -- More lyrics! That is key here, right? -- The lighter colored theme is back. Now welcoming UI design expertise! -- Many artists now have albums listed for them. -- Lyrics can now belong to a multiple albums of an artist, allowing for full discographies. -- Lots of backend upgrades. Please report any problems that you (hopefully don't) encounter. Now I'm back off to trying to getting rid of this nasty flu. =/ ~Anth

On: Sun., Feb. 17, 2008, 12:19 AM (Rating: Average)
As you may or may not have noticed, Lyric Talk has been down for a while (over a year, in fact), but no worries - LT is back for good, and I have lots of improvements in the works! Please feel free to dig around, invite friends, or otherwise help to inspire a new community of music enthusiasts! ~Anth

On: Sat., Feb. 10, 2007, 06:22 PM (Rating: Average)
I started off skiing, but I started snowboarding last winter. It turns out that I find it snowboarding actually much easier to learn and handle than skiing, oddly enough. You don't have to worry about getting your feet tangled up, and foot independence actually isn't really a problem. The only downside to snowboarding? It's harder to push yourself along once you're at the bottom of a run.

I don't intend it to be gone forever, but right now I am in a temporary living situation that precludes me from bringing MW back up again at this time. I am a bit nervous about bringing it back, though, as I feel that by now most of the players will have moved on.

Title: The Pot Called the Kettle Black By: Anth
On: Fri., Dec. 8, 2006, 04:01 PM (Rating: Average)
The song is a play off the popular phrase "the pot called the kettle black". Basically, the song is referring to hypocrisy. As my mother always used to say to me - when you point your finger at somebody, just remember that you still have 3 pointing back at you.

On: Fri., Dec. 8, 2006, 03:54 PM (Rating: Average)
As you can all see, Lyric Talk has taken a darker theme to it for the time being. We felt that it works better with the other colors, but not to worry, the light colored theme is not gone for good. After I get theming support implemented, users will be able to select the light-colored theme once again! ~Anth

I accepted a job with Care2, a site similar to MySpace, but with an activist's angle to it. It's a very modern and up-to-date company with some big plans and ambitions, and I'm really looking forward to working with them.

While I don't know the song other than reading these lyrics, I do get the impression that this guy has issues, and she doesn't want to handle them (even if she could). It sounds more like she wants an equal relationship, as well as a certain level of independance from eachother: Quote: See this pedestal is high and I'm afraid of heights It's clear this guy is holding her up high, and has some issues with his confidence in the relationship and his ability to be "good enough" for her, and that's her biggest problem with him. She doesn't say anything against the guy in general, really, but she says a lot against his reliance on her. This is a common problem with relationships today, so it doesn't appear to be anything too profound. The guy has issues, and she doesn't want to deal with them, IMHO. He's insecure, and wants her to support him... all the time, for everything. I'm probably boiling down the significance of the song considerably, but I guess I don't think of the song as going much deeper than this - at least, without hearing it more....

Ok, here's the deal. I just accepted a job out in San Francisco that I will be moving for next month. Even if I were to get MW back up this month, it would be out of commission again next month during the move, and until I find a place to stay out there (will have to move into a hotel until I can get an apartment). Maybe I should just wait to get it set up until after the move?

On: Wed., Dec. 6, 2006, 03:30 PM (Rating: Average)
PS - I think we should also add styles to all the text boxes and text areas on the site, too, especially with the dark themes. The white input boxes are a little out-of-place, IMHO.

Just some basic thoughts right now, and I'll help with some of this, of course. -- Text beneath the "search" area on the left nav has black letters that need a color update. -- Text on these reply pages and stuff is often darker in color as well -- Links on the bottom bar of the page to the privacy policy and terms of use are white on the orange background, and should be updated/changed. -- What do you think of the gray background? On most pages you can't notice it because the page extends beyond the height of your screen, but on pages where there aren't any follow up comments to forums posts and stuff, you can see the gray. I'm still reserved on what I think of it at this point. It's not bad, but I wonder if maybe it should be adjusted. -- I'll definitely be getting theme support in at some point in the future.
